Incorporating healthy habits into your daily life can not only help you look and feel good but can help build your body’s defenses, preventing future injury and illness. And although everyone’s health routine will end up looking different from each other there are a few daily rituals that should be apart of every health routine!
Drink Your Water
Drinking water should be the first thing you do each morning. Before reaching for your morning cup of coffee, energy drinks, or microwaveable breakfast sandwich, you should fix yourself a glass of water with a slice of lemon. The lemon water will help your digestion and start a foundation for the rest of your day!
Then, throughout the day you should be looking to consume around 8, 8oz glasses of water per day. The amount of water you need to drink increases as your level of activity rises.
Put Some Color On Your Plate
We know that there are a lot of shades of french fries and pizza toppings, but making sure there’s a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables at each meal will ensure a healthy supply of vitamins and minerals are apart of your diet.
Making some of your fast food favorites healthier can be as simple as replacing fries with a side salad, choosing a gluten-free crust, or substituting your bun for a lettuce wrap. A few small choices each meal adds up to large results in the long run without having to sacrifice too much on flavor.
Swapping out your ice cream, cake, or cookies for a serving of dark chocolate can provide a nice low sugar, high antioxidant way to end your meal. But remember, with dark chocolate, the higher the cacao the better.
Take a Breather
Just like children need physical education and recess, adults need to get up and move throughout their day too! Getting up every couple of hours for a quick walk around your building or stepping outside to stretch can have a major impact on your physical and mental health!
So the next time you’re feeling a little stiff or mentally unfocused, take a moment to get outside. Getting out for as little as 10 minutes can leave your body and mind feeling refreshed.
Move That Body
Taking 30 minutes of your day to engage in weight training and cardio workouts can help preserve your health and extend your life.
Research has been done that shows that 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week have higher rates of completion because of their shorter time period and less vigorous investment. These workouts work the body while leaving energy left for the rest of the day.
Get Some Sleep
Just like eating healthy foods and drinking plenty of water, your body needs adequate sleep each night to function properly. Adults should look to get anywhere from 7-9 hours of sleep per night with teens and children require 10+ hours a night.
Lack of sleep can cause a myriad of health problems, throw off the balance of your hormones, and affect your weight.
